Government Degree College, located in K.Buduguntaplaii, Kodur, Annamayya District, A.P. is one of the oldest Higher Educational Institutions (HEI) in the Chittoor – Kadapa border region, established in 1983 to cater to the educational needs of rural and economically backward communities. The college's coeducational platform provides a tremendous opportunity for aspiring students from rural areas to fulfill their dreams. With its location in a rural setting, the institution has been a beacon of hope for generations of students.
The HEI offers 5 courses in B.A, B.Com., and B.Sc, which are taught by 13 departments. Every year, students from the surrounding rural areas are admitted to various courses, with the benefit of various scholarships and free-ships to SC, ST and economically backward students as per the government policy. The college has been successful in filling a significant percentage of seats reserved for various categories (SC, ST, OBC, etc.) as per the applicable reservation policy in the last five years.
The institution has incorporated yoga and meditation as a daily practice, before the general assembly for the students and staff to promote physical and mental well-being. The incorporation of yoga and meditation has led to an improvement in the physical and mental well-being of our students and staff. It is also observed that the stress levels are reduced, and there is a steady increase in concentration and productivity.
In the center of the institute there is Goddess Saraswathi temple. The students follow the culture of Daily pooja and weekly abhishekam, special worship on all auspicious days. Every year on 6th February, The institution also observes annual Homam and pooja for goddess Saraswathi Devi which is the day on which goddess Saraswathi Devi Vigraha Prathista was done. This practice is spreading lots of positive vibes in the campus.
To enrich the knowledge of students, the institute conducts Gender Sensitization Programs, which are visible in various programs of the college, including lectures/seminars, sports, cultural competitions, and NSS, RRC units. Students participate in every academic and extracurricular activity with full enthusiasm.
The Women Empowerment Cell, NSS, and RRC of the institution, in association with the Police Department, organized an awareness program on DISHA for women students. All the staff and students downloaded the DISHA App. The WEC also conducted various programmes on human trafficking, anti suicide day, Health and hygiene, The RRC conducted Blood donation camps, AIDS awareness programmes Rally on AIDS awareness. The institution NSS group conducts plantation programmes, campus cleaning.
The institution also focuses on digital literacy, by organizing webinars on Cyber crimes, Intellectual property rights, Important changes and challenges in Information Technology. Students have done the Community service project on “ Digital Transactions - challenges and Issues” and surveyed in all the surrounding villages of Kodur. The have created awareness on issues involved in Digital transactions.
The cultural committee encourages all the students to participate in various cultural activities like singing, painting, rangoli, at college level, intercollegiate, district wide competitions, and university level competitions. This practice brought out the hidden talents of the students. Students has participated state level painting competition conducted by “State Energy Conservation Mission, AP” and won 3,000/- cash prize. One of the students won the Siva Nandi Award, for her performance in Bharatha Natyam.
The Govt. Degree College, Kodur(RS), volunteered on empowering junior college students through various programs that promote education, health, self standing and well-being for junior college students, focusing mainly on government institutes. The institution’s approach is multifaceted, addressing the needs of Teenage students through a range of activities, including education, counseling, and sports. The institute also invites junior college students to participate in sports and games, science exhibition, elocution, essay writing, painting competitions conducted by the college. New types of Information Technology related assessment methods like Plickers, Kahoot, Quizzes, etc are introduced to the junior college students to improve digital literacy among students
The Govt. Degree College, Kodur(RS), focused on empowering school children through various programs that promote education, health, self standing .The staff and students of this institute were trained in “Kishori Vikasam” program to address the mood swings being experienced by the adolescent children. They in turn, went to various schools and conducted sessions for high school girls on how to protect themselves from child abuse. The interactive sessions on topics such as personal hygiene, anger management personal health care. The staff of the institution also taught basic Maths and English for the government school children, to make them strong in communication skills and calculation skills.
During the covid -19 pandemic time, the institution served as Quarantine Center due to the spacious building and green surrounding to provide safe spaces for more than 100 members, who needed to isolate. The center was equipped with medical facilities and counseling services to support the residents' mental and physical health. During the pandemic period, the staff provided free food for the needy. Staff also prepared more than 500 masks on their own and distributed to the poor people. They also volunteered to visit nearby villages and conducted counselling sessions for the people, not to panic about covid-19.
Sports and games activities are conducted for government school children, Junior college students, to promote their physical and mental health. These activities also help build teamwork and leadership skills.
